Thursday March 11, 6:30 PM — Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Association (SONA)
San Jose Library Director, Jane Light, speaks on the fate of San Jose Libraries.
Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 6:30pm, Sherman Oaks Community Center, 1800 Fruitdale Avenue on the corner of Leigh and Fruitdale. Park in the lot on Fruitdale.
Bascom Avenue Library and Community Center to be delayed?
Many Burbank residents are users of the San Jose City Library System. Many are eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Bascom Avenue Library and Community Center, scheduled to open in August, 2010, at 1000 S Bascom Avenue. With the financial difficulties of the City, will that opening be delayed? See the BCA website's Library page for a description of the Bascom Library and Community Center project.
From the SONA press release:
"This will be one of the few chances neighborhoods have to get together before this month's council meetings regarding upcoming budget cuts. Whether you have an existing library or one in the process of being built, this year's budget will affect your ability to obtain services at our branches. Rather than discuss rumors, you can hear directly from Jane how the budget will affect service delivery."
See the SONA web site at http://www.sona-sj.com/. Once there, click on the March 2010 Newsletter link on the right side to view a PDF of the newsletter that discusses the Library issue in more depth.
Report: At the March 11 meeting, Jane Light and Councilman Pierlugi Oliverio confirmed that the Bascom Library and Community Center is unlikely to open on schedule. Furthermore, all San Jose City Libraries may cut service to 3 days per week due to budget constraints.
