Without the wonderful individuals who volunteer,
the Burbank Community Association would not be
able to provide the voice, communications, events,
and services to our residents and businesses.
Volunteering is always welcomed and can take
many forms such as: individually, families, neighbors
and groups. Whether you can volunteer a few hours a month or an hour or two a year, your help is always welcome. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in signing up or just want more information, please don't hesitate to contact us.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
- Community Issue Liason - We need volunteers who have interests in particular areas and are willing to gather information, attend community meetings and report back to the BCA on issues such as: annexation, redevelopment, adult entertainment, traffic calming, property zoning and pending legislation. This list is definitely not all inclusive and we would love to hear your suggestions.
Time Committment: Varies
- Are you an experienced Grant Writer? Many improvements in our neighborhood are funded by state and federal grants. Improvements such as street lighting, drainage updates, streetscaping and community beautification are SOLEY funded by submitted grants.
Time Committment: 2-4 hours depending on grant writing process. Additional meeting times if needed to attend grant meetings.
- The BCA newsletter and the new Web site are in need of creative content writers. We are pleased to announce the addition of an additional writer but the more the merrier. Have you heard about something in the neighborhood that you would like to share? Are you interested in researching the history of the Burbank area? Have an expetise you would like to share such as cooking, gardening, computer tips, or pet care? Help us make our content more of a resource for the community!
Time Committment: Varies from a couple of hours per year to a couple of hours per month
- Burbank Neighborhood Jamboree - Each June the West San Carlos Business District hosts the Jamboree. We need one volunteer to be the main contact between the BCA and the West San Carlos Business District. This volunteer would attend the Jamboree meetings, report back to the BCA, and possibly help coordinate volunteers from the Burbank area to help on the day of the event.
Time Committment - 1-3 hours per month with meetings possibly starting in August
- Area Wide News Distribution - At least one time per year the BCA prints and distributes a newsletter door to door to each resident in the Burbank area. Also there are time when an issue comes up that needs immediate action and the information needs to get to the Burbank residents immediately. We would love to have a volunteer from each street who would be willing to drop off the newsletters or information to their neighbors. With one volunteer per street the distribution could be complete in a couple of days without a great time hardship on any one person. It is fun, great exercise and a nice way to meet your neighbors.
Time Committment - 30 minutes to 1-2 hours depending on the size of the distribution area. Newsletter are normally distributed two times per year (usually May or June and October or November).
